Who this article is for: Plug In SEO users who want to fix the issues a scan found without editing their theme or working through Shopify page by page.
What you'll learn: What Issue Fixes can correct, how to generate and apply a suggestion, and how to clear a fixed page off your issue list.
Where it is
Issue Fixes sits in the Plug In SEO menu, directly under SEO Scanner.
What it can fix
- Title tags — no keyword in them, or only one of your keywords mentioned.
- Meta descriptions — no keyword in them, or only one of your keywords mentioned.
- URL keywords — handles with no keyword in them, or keywords run together with no hyphens.
- Image alt-text — missing, carrying no keyword, or covering only some of the images on a page.
- Image file names — no real words in them, or no keyword.
You work on one issue type at a time, and the names match what your scan results call them.
Title & Descriptions section covers those same two fields from the other direction. There you build a template that applies across your pages; here you work page by page, so the suggestion is written for that one page. Use whichever suits the job.
The keyword side of your page heading and product description is still Keyword Studio.
It only lists the pages that have the problem:
Issue Fixes is not a list of your pages. It shows the pages where the scan found the issue you picked, and nothing else. To look through everything the scan covered, use SEO Scanner.
Before you start: give it your keywords
Every suggestion is built around keywords. If the page you selected has no keyword research of its own, Plug In SEO tells you and offers two ways forward: run the keyword research for that page, or carry on with your store-wide keywords from Keyword studio Global section.
Both work. Page-level keywords make the suggestion specific to that page; store-wide keywords are more generic.
Fixing a page
1. Open Issue Fixes and choose the issue type.
2. Select the page you want to fix — or tick several and work through them in a batch.
3. Click Generate suggestions. Plug In SEO returns a correction for each page, along with the reason it chose that one, so you are not guessing.
4. Click Review suggestions, pick the option you want and click Apply — or click Dismiss and proceed to next to leave that one alone and move on.
Nothing changes on your store until you apply a suggestion. When you do, Plug In SEO writes it straight to the product page in Shopify — there is nothing to copy across by hand.
Clearing the page off your list
Applying a fix doesn't remove the page from Issue Fixes. The page has to be scanned again before the issue clears.
Select the page, open the Action button and choose:
- Recheck fix-attempted pages — rescans the pages you've just applied fixes to.
- Recheck selected pages — rescans whatever you've ticked, fixed or not.
These rechecks are free. Rechecking a page is not a full shop scan — it doesn't come out of the monthly scan allowance on your plan, and there's no limit on how many you run.
The wrench tells you what you can fix in the app
A wrench in the action column opens Issue Fixes. A smaller wrench next to the count means that issue is fixable in the app too, but from a different section.
The same marks appear on a single page inside Optimization Studio, so you can work through one page at a time.
