Who this article is for: Shopify merchants and Plug In SEO users who want a clear, step-by-step understanding of how to use the app to track SEO issues, discover keywords, and optimize their store.

What you will learn: You’ll learn how to use Plug In SEO to find, manage, and fix SEO issues across your store.

Summary

If you’ve ever wondered how to get the most out of Plug In SEO, this guide walks you through the app step by step. From identifying technical SEO issues to discovering new keyword opportunities, Plug In SEO brings everything you need to optimize your Shopify store — all in one place.

Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned store owner, here’s how to use each section effectively.

1. Dashboard: Your SEO Overview

When you first open the app, you’ll land on the Dashboard — your command center.
Here, you’ll see:

  • A summary of your site’s overall SEO health

  • Your top issues

  • A quick overview of your site’s performance

You can also connect your Google Search Console to see real-time search data, including top-performing pages and keyword trends — directly inside the app.

Issues are color-coded so you can prioritize easily:

  • Red: Critical issues that need urgent attention.

  • Yellow: Warnings that are good to fix soon.

  • Green: Items that are already optimized

This visual summary helps you focus on what matters most.

The goal here: Get a quick health check and know exactly where to focus your efforts.

2. Keyword Studio: Discover and Manage Keywords

The Keyword Studio is one of Plug In SEO’s most powerful tools. This is where you'll find golden opportunities to rank higher. It scans your entire store to identify keyword opportunities and helps you manage them all in one place — saving hours of manual research.

Inside Keyword Studio, you can:

  • View all your keywords with their type, status, volume, and competitiveness

  • Generate new keyword ideas

  • Filter by Active, New Ideas, or Deleted keywords

There are two ways to add keywords:

Generate New Ideas

Paste your shop, product, or blog URL and click Generate.
The app will analyze your content and suggest fresh, relevant keywords.
Then you can:

  • Add them by clicking the green checkmark ✅ (they’ll move to Active)

  • Leave them in Pending to review later

  • Or delete the ones you don’t need

Expert Mode

Already have your own list of keywords?
Just enter them manually, separated by commas. It’s a quick way to take full control of your keyword targeting.

Per-Page Keyword Scanning

Want to focus on one page at a time?
Use the new Per-Page Keyword Scan to zoom in on a specific product, collection, or blog page.
This gives you tailored keyword suggestions for each page — helping you fine-tune where it matters most.

The goal here: Never run out of relevant keyword ideas and understand exactly what terms your specific pages should target.

3. Optimization Studio: Fix and Track SEO Issues

This is where the magic happens. In the Optimization Studio, you run the SEO Scanner to get a detailed audit of your store.

Run a Scan: Check your profile section to see how many scans your plan includes per month. Run the scanner to uncover every SEO issue.

Your results will show:

  • Critical issues (red)

  • Warnings (yellow)

  • Looking good (green)

Drill Down & Fix: Filter issues by category or search for a specific page to see its individual SEO score. Click on any product to see all issues affecting it. After making a fix, hit Recheck to confirm it's resolved.

Important: Performing an individual page Recheck after fixing its issues does not count against your monthly global scan quota. This feature is specifically designed to let you verify your corrections immediately and as often as needed, without impacting your main allocation of full site scans.

Action Items: On the right, a clear list shows all issues from major to minor, so you know exactly what to do next. Stuck? Every issue has a link to a detailed support article with step-by-step fixing instructions. Just click in the name of the issues and you will see it.

The goal here: Identify, understand, and fix every technical and on-page SEO error systematically.

Pro Tip: The Optimal SEO Workflow
For the best results, follow this sequence:

  1. First, use Keyword Studio to set your target keywords.

  2. Then, run the SEO Scanner to see all technical and on-page issues.

  3. Fix the issues based on the scanner's recommendations.

  4. Once you've made several fixes, run a new full scan to update your store's overall SEO score and uncover any remaining issues.

This method ensures your keyword strategy and technical SEO work together for maximum impact.

4. Blog Section: Keep Your Content Active

In the Blog tab, you can connect your store’s blog and even set posting reminders.
If you go too long without publishing, Plug In SEO will notify you — helping you stay consistent and improve long-term rankings.

5. Broken Links: Spot and Fix Instantly

This section lists all the broken links on your site.
To fix one, just click Fix, paste the correct URL, and you’re done.
Keeping your links healthy prevents visitors and search engines from running into dead ends.

6. Titles & Descriptions: Customize with Ease

Here, you can edit meta titles and descriptions for all your products, collections, and pages using powerful Liquid code.

If you want to set your own meta titles and descriptions, just click Custom.
Not sure how to use Liquid? We provide sample articles with copy-paste examples. Also, you can create your own.

You’ll also see a Live Search Engine Preview that shows exactly how your page will appear in Google search results.

This gives you full control to optimize your meta information with relevant keywords, helping your store stand out in search results.

7. Schema Markup: Build Trust and Brand Recognition

In this section, you can add your logo, reviews, and social media links.
This creates structured data (JSON-LD) that helps Google better understand your business and display rich results — like star ratings or brand info — in search results.

8. My Profile: Manage Your Account

Here, you’ll find your store URL, subscription details, and available scan credits.
You can manage your plan and track your usage anytime.

You’ll also see the option to enable or disable Periodic Scans, which automatically check your store for SEO issues on a regular basis.

In the same section, you can select your preferred language for the app interface, making navigation easier in the language you’re most comfortable with.

9. Help Center: Support When You Need It

If you ever need guidance, visit the Help section. Your gateway to expert help.
You’ll find:

  • Our SEO Help Center

  • A Knowledge Base full of tutorials

  • Direct links to our support articles

And if you need one-on-one help, you can always contact our team by chat or email — we’re happy to assist.
