Best Practices For Domains
- Get the domain you can given your budget. A good domain should include either the name of the brand you're building or the items your selling.
- Examples:
- If you're building a brand called Blue Dog for example, build your shop on a domain that includes the words Blue Dog.
- If you're selling patio furniture at Blue Dog you could also consider ideas that include the the patio furniture related keywords.
- Once you have started building a brand and SEO on your domain -- whatever it is -- we don't recommend you changing it unless its a substantial improvement or part of a major strategic shift. It's difficult to regain organic traffic when the underlying domain changes.
- Set up auto renew on your domain with your domain's registrar. If you inadvertently allow your domain name to expire it can be difficult and costly to renew it.
Domain Keywords - Domain Does Not Contain A Keyword
If you are being notified that your domain does not contain a keyword, the best thing to do is to add your brand name (domain name) to your list of Active Keywords in the Keyword Studio.
Domain Expiration - Renewal Recommended
If you are being notified that your domain is expiring soon and renewal is recommended go to your domain registrar, and renew and turn on auto renew so you don't have to think about it again next year.
If you're unsure who your domain registar is, you can do a reverse lookup using whois.com/whois/[your-domain-name.com] for example: whois.com/whois/pluginuseful.com
The resulting page will show you which company your domain is registered with.
