Page titles
Truncate over (characters)
This sets the maximum number of characters that will be output as a page title. Any characters over this length will be cut off (truncated).
If this is blank, page titles will never be truncated.
Recommended: blank. Search engines display a variable amount of characters (around 70) however consider for ranking purposes page titles a lot longer. Read more about page title lengths here
Override manually entered page titles with templates
Manually entered page titles are those that you've entered in the 'Edit website SEO' of a product/collection/page/blog/article in your Shopify admin.
If this box is ticked, the manually entered page title will be ignored and the title template from Plug in SEO Plus will be used instead.
Recommended: not ticked. Title templating is the best way to manage your SEO titles overall but manually entered titles also have their role in good SEO. Read about when it is best to manually enter a title. Leaving this box unticked lets you have a mix of automatic, templated titles and manually entered titles which is our recommendation.
Meta descriptions
Truncate over (characters)
This sets the maximum number of characters that will be output as a meta description. Any characters over this length will be cut off (truncated).
If this is blank, meta descriptions will never be truncated.
Recommended: 165. Search engines display a variable amount of characters (around 160). Meta descriptions are not used for ranking purposes so there is no need for longer lengths. Setting a limit of 165 helps to keep your page size down by truncating text that no-one will ever see. Read more about meta description lengths here
